Attachment & Relational Problems

Our patterns in romantic relationships can be influenced by our early childhood experiences. These patterns often stem from attachment styles and past experiences, shaping how we connect with and relate to partners in our adulthood.

Blaming oneself, trust issues, confusion, and a fear of being alone are all examples of how these patterns affect our current relationships. Self-awareness and communication can help us better understand and potentially change these patterns if they are causing problems in our relationships.

Relational Conflict

Lack of awareness about attachment styles and past relational trauma can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts in our current relationships.

When we don't understand our own needs and triggers, it can result in feelings of being unappreciated or dismissed.

This lack of self-awareness can lead to further conflict which often leads to acting out instead of addressing the underlying need in a healthy way. This leaves us feeling dissatisfied in our relationships when we might just be missing a simple solution.

Relationship with Ourselves

Our attachment system is linked to our stress response, and when it's not properly acknowledged and our needs are not met, it can lead to heightened stress, anxiety, shame, and depression.

As a result, we may subconsciously engage in unhealthy coping strategies such as increased substance use, codependency, lashing out, or impulsively leaving the relationship to try to manage our emotional distress.

This disconnects us from ourselves and we often need a more embodied approach to understand what it is we need. Recognizing our own patterns and knowing ourselves helps us to find healthier ways to address our needs, which is essential for our personal growth and developing a thriving relationship.

benefits

Understanding your attachment style.

Do you ever wonder why you keep ending up with the same (wrong) type of partner? Or why your relationships tend to keep repeating the same issues? Maybe you tend to fall for people who are unavailable - or maybe you feel scared when you start getting close to someone.

In therapy, I help you break the pattern that keeps you stuck in a negative cycle that prevents you from experiencing the loving connection you desire.

Therapy can help you:

Understand your attachment style and how that impacts how you show up in relationships

Get past betrayal and traumatic experiences that influence your current relationships

Break patterns of e.g. codependency or self sabotaging behaviors

Communicate in a way where you feel seen, heard, and understood

Put an end to the same recurring relationship challenges

Deepen physical and emotional intimacy by the implementation of healthy boundaries

Choose partners intentionally and consciously and not based on unhealed attachment wounds
